05 OCT 21
In the past, we usually only had one way of learning languages outside the classroom, and that was with books. Now, we have a variety of ways of learning a new language, and one of the most common methods is by watching movies.
Have a streaming platform? Then you're in luck! You can easily switch the subtitles on and off while watching movies in Spanish. This means that whether you're just starting to learn Spanish or you're an advanced learner, you can find the best subtitle settings to suit you.
There are so many Spanish movies to choose from that can get you learning the language. Here are a few that we recommend:
THE BAR
The plot takes place in one of the most emblematic places in Spain: the bar scene in Madrid. Mario Casas, a very well-known Spanish actor, stars in this film where a loud gunshot and two mysterious deaths trap the protagonists in the bar as they discuss how to get out of that altercation in one piece.
HOLY CAMP!
This musical comedy written and directed by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo (known as Los Javis) mixes new and old Spanish traditions. Two girls are roommates at a Catholic camp but show more interest in partying and reggaeton than praying. However, everything changes when God comes to visit one of the protagonists.
SPANISH AFFAIR
This comedy is a romantic tale between two protagonists. Rafa, a young man from Seville, falls in love with Amaia, a Basque girl with strong roots in her homeland.
The difference between these two cultures, and their accents and personalities, make this comedy an excellent example of Spanish culture.
THE INVISIBLE GUEST
Immerse yourself in an incredible plot full of suspense! A young businessman finds the lifeless body of his lover in his hotel room. To solve the case, he hires the services of a lawyer to help him find out what happened. Starring Mario Casas, this crime film will take you along on a ride full of mystery and suspense.
THE LIGHTHOUSE OF THE ORCAS
This moving film was shot in a remote area of Argentine Patagonia.
A Spanish mother travels to the end of the world with her autistic son, hoping that a ranger and a pod of wild orcas can help him find an emotional connection.
PAN'S LABYRINTH
Set during the Spanish Civil War in 1944, Pan's Labyrinth tells the story of Nationalist troops chasing their enemies, the Republicans, hiding in the woods. Their leader, Captain Vidal, is a military man whose goal is to eliminate the resistance by mercilessly killing the rebels. The story takes place while a 13-year-old girl, Ofelia, the captain's daughter, enters a labyrinth where she meets a faun who offers her three tests to get out of the maze.
THREE OTHER WEDDINGS
