26 OCT 21

There is no doubt that when it comes to learning a specific country's language, we must first understand its history and culture. Knowing the country's history can help you get familiar with the origins of the language, the customs, and the meanings of each of the words that make up a language.

This blog will offer a list of some of the most famous museums in the Hispanic world. Each museum shows how countries such as Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and many more have contributed to Hispanic civilization.

MUSEO DEL PRADO, MADRID

The Museo Nacional del Prado was founded back in 1819. Thanks to its long history, it has accumulated an extensive collection of works of art linked to the history of Spain. This museum has enjoyed universal recognition for its significant manifestations of artistic expression since its opening.

The museum is home to the priceless Royal Collections that have been taking shape since Charles V in the sixteenth century. They were later enriched by all the monarchs who succeeded him, both Austrian and Bourbon. Thanks to them, works such as The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch, The Knight with his Hand on his Breast by El Greco, The Transit of the Virgin by Mantegna, Las Meninas by Velázquez, The Three Graces by Rubens, and The Family of Charles IV by Goya can be seen today in the Prado.

NATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM, MADRID

The National Archaeological Museum was founded in 1867 by Isabel II. It was built to house the Spanish monarch’s numismatic, archaeological, ethnographic, and art collections.

Located in the heart of the Salamanca District, the museum houses all kinds of art pieces such as sculptures, tools, and relics that make up the history of Spain from its origins to its most contemporary times.

MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY, MEXICO CITY

This museum is one of Mexico’s largest and most important attractions, with 22 rooms distributed over 45,000 square meters.

At its entrance, you are greeted by the great sculpture: the monolith of Tlaloc, God of rain in the Aztec culture, which measures more than 7 meters.

You can also observe archaeological pieces that tell the history of the indigenous people of Mexico, with monuments such as the tombstone and the jade mask of Pakal, the Stone of the Sun, and the sculpture of Coatlicue.

LARCO MUSEUM, LIMA

This museum has the largest collections of ceramic pieces and is the brainchild of Rafael Larco, a researcher and collector. He gathered almost 45,000 works of art depicting the history of Peruvian culture. It features highlights of the Moche culture, a civilization of the Peruvian coast that emerged in the second and seventh centuries AD.

MUSEUM OF GOLD, BOGOTÁ

This museum is one of the country's major tourist attractions. According to National Geographic, it is ranked as one of the best in history. It has one of the most extensive collections of gold pieces in the world, with around 34,000 pieces, some of which are necklaces, bracelets, masks, and vessels.
